Federal Spending Out of Control Once Again?

I have been a federal employee since the late 1980's.  Last year at this time our department could even buy pencils and we were about to get furloughed.  One year later you would think the government is flush with cash as I have never seen so much spending over the last 6 months since I have been a federal employee.  I'm curious what is going on in other departments?

War Drums Beating Faster

If Russia invades eastern Ukraine which could occur at anytime the war won't last long as I imagine the Ukraine Military will give up rather quickly.  If Russia decides to push further west towards Kiev then this will have major consequences as I imagine NATO will get involved leading to a much larger conflict.  I'm sure Putin knows this so he will likely stop and only attempt to grab eastern parts of Ukraine.

Billions of Dollars Wasted in Iraq

For those that follow Debka.com they posted today at
http://www.debka.com/article/23847/Baghdad-buttresses-defenses-ready-for-wholesale-Al-Qaeda-assault-on-city  that Al Qaeda is taking over much of the country and is preparing to assault Baghdad.  The astonishing part of the article says that "Al Qaeda’s army in Iraq fields more Western fighters than any other of its branches. They are nationals of the US, Canada, the UK, France, Holland, Belgium and Italy".   The  US spent Billions of Dollars to rebuild Iraq and to defeat Al Qaeda and here we are today with Al Qaeda now controlling vast parts of Iraq.
