Ukraine gave up it's Nukes

When Ukraine became a country of their own when the Soviet Republic broke apart in the early 1990's they agreed to give up all of their Nuclear Weapons.   You can bet right now Ukraine wished they had never  given up their nukes.  It's pretty obvious if Ukraine still had their nukes Putin probably would have used a different approach on Crimea instead of invading it.
