The Democrats are no Better

As an independent with no ties to either party, the Democrats are just as childish as Trump.  Although Trump started this mess, the Democrats are just as guilty for not paying Federal Employees.   A bill today to pay all Federal Employees failed to get through the House.  https://thehill.com/homenews/house/425858-house-rejects-gop-measure-to-pay-workers-but-not-open-government

One Week Grace Period

Since both sides of the aisle are complete idiots what they should do is declare a truce and pass a "1" Week Spending Bill for next week.   This would allow all Federal Employees who have been working/furloughed during this shutdown to get paid.  Also it would allow those that are furloughed to catch up on things.  If nothing is solved by next Saturday (1/26) then then shutdown begins once again.

Term Limits

Term Limits should be applied to every person in Congress.  However, these idiots will never bring this up for a vote.

Congress Could Pay Employees on Time

With 800,000 Federal workers on furlough Congress could pass an emergency bill at anytime to pay all workers on time.  However since this is a battle between Trump and the Democrats neither side wants to give in at the moment.  Eventually somebody will blink.

Federal Employees

As a federal employee for nearly 30 years the recent shutdown is the 6th one I have endured.  In each one federal employees have always been paid.  Overall federal employees are either considered essential or not during a shutdown.  For those not considered essential it's basically a paid vacation.  For those considered essential they are required to work.  Essential employees receive no additional compensation which probably isn't right since the unessential ones get a free paid vacation.

Congress should pass a law such that essential employees will get time and a half during a shutdown to compensate them for not getting a free paid vacation.  Passing a law like this would likely prevent future shutdowns since Congress would never want to pay essential employees time and a half .
